“As a child, I had many influences of the “world of the arts” surrounding me. Both my father and mother were creative and they gave me many opportunities to allow my imagination to flourish. I love painting, music and dance. I’m also very passionate about nature and landscaping.”

“If I saw something I wanted as a child, such as a toy, I would make it. Whether it be paint, cardboard, wood…. whatever I could find, I used to make my own world. My love for music channeled me into every style and composition. I took piano lessons from age 5 until I was 18 and I play the flute, piccolo, alto saxophone and guitar.”

“My painting style is influenced by how my subject speaks to me. Whether it is a soft, glowing warm realism painting of a piece of pottery from my grandmother or bold, rich colors of a mass of tree branches that form into an abstract storm – I listen and I feel the paint. I like images that make you feel like you have captured a moment of warmth and happiness. We pass up the simple things in life so many times when beauty is all around us in wonderful shapes and sizes and twirls of color.”

Artists who have given Cynthia inspiration for her paintings include Henri Rousseau, Leonardo Da Vinci, Claude Monet, Andrew Wyeth and Jack Vettriano. She was a student of Jerry Goodnight, Raney Rogers and most recently Daniel Edmondson. Her latest work is in oil painting, but she also enjoys painting with acrylics and drawing with charcoal and ink. Her paintings have been sold through local art councils, friends and family and by commission. She also sells her work through "The Ashe County Arts Council Studio Tour" that she hosts annually in her home. She paints original designs for hand painted wall paper and unusual murals on glass and mirror. With immense driving curiosity, she has learned through exposure to classical artists and through online courses, books and workshops.

Cynthia is a native and resident of western North Carolina and lives in the beautiful mountains of Ashe County with her wonderful husband, John. The surrounding beauty of the land has inspired many of her paintings. Her landscaping talents flourish throughout the properties she and John own. She has a beautiful daughter, Heather, who graduated from UNC Wilmington and is employed as a Systems Administrator in Wilmington, NC.
